How Genetic Play a Role in Cancer Risk

Cancer is a serious disease and the second leading cause of death globally. It is estimated that one in nine people develop cancer. Cancer is a genetic disorder in that a change in the DNA code of some genes predisposes to unregulated cell division and cancer.   DNA changes in the cancer cells cannot pass to the children, but if there are genetic changes. in the parent egg or sperm cells that predispose to cancer, these can be passed down from parents to offspring. About 10% of cancers occur because of these inherited DNA genetic changes. As per the report, India registered around 12 lakh active cases of cancer and around 9.3 lakh deaths in 2019.
